Sports at Gorseybrigg

On Monday’s training day in April all staff were trained in a new resource ‘Real PE’, which aims to further improve the quality of PE lessons by inclusive, fun activities which build on the fundamental skills of Agility. Balance and Coordination. This was paid for with the School Sport Premium money from the Government.

18th April - our amazing Sportshall Athletics team travelled to Derby for the County Final. The team made our school proud with their ability and sporting attitude. 26th April- Following on from their Early Riders  training in school, the Reception class attended a festival at Fanshaw with other local schools. The children were very well behaved and had a great afternoon.

This half term has culminated in our annual sports week. The opening ceremony saw Year 3 perform their brilliant ‘Volcano’ dance and the whole school sing ‘Going for Gold’. The sun has shone, enabling us make full use of our fantastic grounds. All children in school have participated in a range of activities including mini tennis, netball, tri-golf, orienteering, dance, road safety and a trip to the sports centre where there was climbing, short mat bowls and the virtual studio. Years 1-6 have also competed in an intra school competition in either cricket, rounders or football rounders. Years 4, 5 and 6 have taken on a leadership role; planning and delivering  activities to the younger year groups. These children showed fantastic leadership skills, impressing all their teachers. The annual school walk to Barlow was a perfect way to enjoy our local countryside. Thank you to all those who came with us. The Year 5 class attended a Quadkids athletics event at Mount St Mary’s  and had a great day. 3 children from our school received top 3 places- an incredible achievement out of 300 children!!

Well done to the children who gained certificates for sporting ability and those children who demonstrated our school values during the week..

A big thank you to all the people who contributed to the sports week activities: Natasha from the Vicki Durning school of Dance, Louise Rogers for Netball, Alison Tingay for Orienteering, Abbeydale Tennis club and Karen Dobson Road Safety Officer.

If your child has enjoyed any of these activities and would like to continue an activity out of school, please come and see us and we can help find a club near you.
